Our Story
Sarah is a florist and the founder of Thicket and Ali is a media law barrister and head of logistics at Thicket.
We packed up life in Wellington and made the move to Tararua, with our two little girls and two Jack Russells, to embrace life in the regions.
Thicket has evolved since we launched the flower and gift studio in 2021. In 2022, we introduced a range of gourmet delicacies from top food producers including Over the Moon Dairy, The Wild Fermentary, Manaaki, The Baked Dane, and Hawthorne Coffee (just to name a few)! Then in 2023, we made quite the change as we transitioned into a coffee lounge.
Our aim is to create a cosy welcoming space where you can relax and find something special. We source the majority of our offerings locally and within NZ - with the exception of some beautiful Italian offerings.
The studio is a bit of an ode to foraging. We wanted to create the feeling of exploring inside a ‘thicket’. Our XXL dried hanging installation helps to set the scene!
The two of us also love to play house and UK garage music (a passion kept alive since DJing throughout Otago Uni days). You’ll often find us spinning tunes at Thicket or Teacher Teacher cocktail lounge in Palmerston North. Email us with any DJ inquiries as we do book the odd private event!
About the studio
A thicket is a close grouping of trees that grow together to withstand the elements.
We love this sentiment and aim to work together with our community to create something special that will stand the test of time.
